River Update 1/20/12
The unexpected events that led to the discovery of his heart condition have made us realize his expenses, including the trip to the cardiovascular specialist, are going to be even more than expected!

On behalf of River we would like to thank EVERYONE for your support and kind words thus far. River has had 41 kind souls donate towards his recovery as of today and so many more that have sent their thoughts and prayers his way.

River is still in boarding and in need of a medical foster that can provide a calm environment for his recovery, fill out an application here. As the update below states, River is healing but still has a long road to recovery before he is out of the danger zone.

Here is a more comprehensive update on River's story and current condition: http://love-a-bull.org/2012/01/when-it-rains-it-pours-meet-river/. We are continuing to raise funds to cover his care as there are now some additional expenses that will be incurred (see update below or click on the link above). We're also still looking for a foster that can keep him in a calm environment and help with his care. He's really doing great and seems to have no idea that he's even sick or injured. Silly dog, now that's love!

His wounds are healing really well and looking good with twice daily hydrotherapy. Of course the new sock monkey collar from Dress-A-Bull definitely helps too!

Won't you help him?
Update on River 1/17/12
River collapsed tonight during a routine recheck exam, went completelyunconscious, pale, and stopped breathing. He came back to life on his own afterabout 30 seconds, but for a gut wrenching minute we really thought he was gone.He is mostly back to normal now, but the risk that it will happen again ishigh. We ran an EKG and River has a condition called AV Block, oratrioventricular block. We do not yet know the cause of the condition, butuntil it is treated, there is a substantial risk that this will happen again ifRiver experiences high stress. Hopefully he can get into see a cardiologist tomorrow,so we can find out what is going on, and get him on the road to recovery. Please keep River in your thoughts and prayers, and we will update on hisstatus again soon.

River Needs Your Help!
Barely clinging to life, this pup has a strong will to survive.River is a resilient little guy who needs support and love as he starts thelong road to recovery.

Just days ago this helpless soul was found drowning in Colorado River. He wasbrought into Austin Animal Control emaciated and suffering from hypothermia.River was transferred to a local vet clinic where it was discovered not onlydid he fall into or get thrown into the freezing river, he was also most likelyhit by a vehicle beforehand and is suffering from a fractured hip, untreatedopen wounds including necrotic hip wound, and horrible road rash. To add thecherry on top, River is heartworm positive and will need treatment immediately.

Needless to say, not only is this guy going to need lots of love and attention,he is going to require LOTS of medical attention! River’s fractured hip isgoing to require surgery and his hip wound is going to require hydrotherapy.

Even in River’s condition with ribs showing and fractured bones he still LOVESpeople and greets everyone with a very wiggly bottom and a gentle nudge withhis face to request some attention!
